Our story

Piroš Čarda has had a cult status in the Zagreb region and beyond since the beginning of its work, probably due to an interesting story about its origin, fascination with the chardas of the restaurant's founder and his love for music ...

The history of Piroš Čarda dates back to the 1960s, when the young musician toured Europe with his band, playing in various clubs. In Hungary he felt the atmosphere of the chard and there love was born on the first beat. He was delighted by the atmosphere of the chards - live music moving among the guests, the charm of the violin playing in the ear. People came to the chards not only for food, but they came to enjoy music, dancing, singing… Such an atmosphere enchanted the young man from Zagreb, so he firmly decided that one day, when he returned to his hometown, he would open a bar where he would convey the atmosphere of Hungarian chards. He succeeded in his plan and opened a bistro in Samobor. For years, the restaurant opened in the evening and worked until the wee hours of the morning. Everyone knew that in Piroš Čarda, in addition to good food, something was waiting for them that would leave them with a special memory that day. Everything else is history, written by many guests.

In the 1990s, due to the circumstances of the war, it was no longer possible to work in the same way, so we switched from night work to day work. We soon changed the location of the restaurant itself, from Giznik in Samobor, to Novakei near Sveta Nedjelja, from where we still offer our guests the organization of various festivities by arrangement, as well as food delivery service.

Throughout history, Piroš Čarda has always been a family business, and this is how we treat our guests as a family.
